Rumor: Eidos Parent Company About to Be Acquired

It looks like this is shaping up to be a week of lots of game companies changing hands. In the wake of the news of Midway's bargain basement purchase, there now comes word that SCi (the parent company of Tomb Raider's Eidos Interactive) may be the next developer to be sold. According to GamePolitics (via the Daily Mail) SCi, whose stock is trading at $.92, is a likely acquisition target for either Ubisoft or Electronic Arts.
The Daily Mail quotes a "source familiar with the matter" who is claiming the discussions are in the earliest stages, and that both companies have expressed their interest in Eidos within the past few weeks. Whoever ends up making the final purchase will take on such marquee franchises as Hitman, Deus Ex, and the aforementioned Tomb Raider. They'll also be acquiring a company that has seen its losses quadruple in the past year.
Again, since the Mail's source isn't referred to as an employee of any particular company, nor an industry analyst, nor anything at all really, this is about as pure of a rumor as you're likely to find. It is worth keeping an eye on though, and you can rest assured that Gamervision will do just that.
