Rumor: Microsoft Working on 360 Slim

That Is, If One Picture Qualifies as a "Rumor"

by Sean

A report on Kotaku is claiming that what you see there is the innards of an as-yet unannounced version of the Xbox 360. The story goes on to say that the board is not for an existing piece of hardware, but is part of a completely new, never-before seen slim model of the Xbox 360. Apparently, the board is far enough along in the production process to have already been finished testing in a mysterious factory in China. With no official word from Microsoft in regards to the new model console, this one picture seems spurious at best.

Granted, with the five year mark coming up on the 360's life cycle, coupled with the imminent release of Natal, the timing seems right for a new sku to hit the market. Also, when you consider the success that Sony has had with the PS3 Slim, and the copy and paste nature of the electronics business, it wouldn't exactly be the most surprising announcement in the world. Now, if the 360 Slim were to incorporate Blu-ray, well, that'd be something.

It looks like a Foxconn motherboard with a huge fan attached. Also, as if Microsoft would pay royalties to Sony for the Bluray player.
