Second Pack of DLC Comes to Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising

Overwatch Arrives on XBLA Today, Other Ports to Follow

by Sean

It's been a little while since we've heard from Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, but we shouldn't take that silence to mean that the team at Codemasters hasn't been hard at work. The fruits of their labor have arrived today on Xbox Live Arcade, in the form of the Overwatch DLC pack. The new content includes two new multiplayer modes, called Blindside and Supremacy, as well as a pair of new Fire Team Engagement (FTE) missions.

The first of the two new modes, Blindside, is a head-to-head challenge, in which the PLA troops must complete objectives in the shortest possible time while the USMC defends in tense, tactical engagements. Supremacy sounds like a modified capture-the-flag mode, with the two teams occupying strategically important positions, adding in force multipliers like gun emplacements and air strikes.

Friendly Skies, the first new FTE, puts gamers in the shoes of US airborne reinforcements, who must remove the threat of PLA anti-aircraft artillery from a strategic position, and then defend that point against a PLA counter-attack. In the other new FTE, Hostile Takeover, US troops must root PLA troops from the village of Armudan, which the enemy is using as a base for launching attacks. After the village is clear, players must establish a perimeter and hold their ground against the PLA counter-attack.

There's a trio of new screenshots for the Overwatch pack, as well as a new trailer showing it off. It's on XBLA now for 400, and Codemasters promises that it will be available for PS3 and PC "soon".

They should be focusing on releasing updates to fix the numerous bugs in the game. It's a shame because there really is a good experience buried in there somewhere.
