Smash Bros. to Feature On-line

Break Out Your Friend Codes...

by Sean

Nintendo announced officially today on the Smash Bros. Dojo that the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl will allow on-line play across the Nintendo Wi-Fi Network. There will be two modes to on-line play: With Friends or With Anyone This means that you don't need to exchange friend codes in order to get your battle on, but if you choose to play against "anyone" you don't get as many amenities. Playing "With Friends" means you'll be able to see the name of the person you're playing against and send them messages (in a look similar to the Pictochat on the DS). "With Anyone" will not have these options. The other hitch is that since you'll be using the Wi-Fi connection, the further away from your opponent you are geographically, the more pronounced the delay will be. Can't say that an appreciable lag is the best feature for a fighting game, but it is nice to finally see some support for Wii games online.
