Square Enix Announces Order of War
Get This, It's a Video Game about World War II
by Sean

Square Enix is a publisher best known for games featuring androgynous lead characters with forgotten pasts who must spend hundreds of hours learning various truths. So their announcement today of a new game currently in development comes as a bit of a shock. The new license, called Order of War, will be Squenix's first foray into the seemingly unending string of World War II games.
Here's the first trailer:
An RTS game, Order of War promises to provide "massive scale battles brought to life with a cinematic intensity never seen before in a WWII strategy game". The game gives players the opportunity to command entire armies, including ground troops, artillery, tank divisions and aircraft. The single-player mode can be played out in two campaigns – American versus German forces on the western front and German versus Russian on the eastern front – missions will be based on key historic events and operations from 1944.
Apart from being a break from the normal Squenix game formula, Order of War also represents a change on the business end of the development. Order of War will be the first release of a game developed by a western developer outside of Japan, and will also be released simultaneously across multiple territories.
There is no word yet of a release date, nor of any plans to bring it to any platforms apart from the PC, but we'll be sure to let you know when we learn more. In the meantime, check out these screenshots.

Looks... kinda awesome, actually. I'm in.
The order of war:
Step 1: Start war.
Step 2:.......
Step 3: Profit!
Where's the brooding anti-hero?
hmm it does actually look somewhat good
Square Enix? Real-Time Strategy? Maybe SRPG-style gameplay? Looks interesting either way.
Oh, and Tim, that's awesome!
Graphically it is def FTW, but I have trouble getting into WWII games.
Well, at least Square Enix is trying something new. They did Heroes of Mana on the DS and did a good job for what the DS can handle. I'm skeptical of a WW2 game from them, I 'd be more excited if they took FFVII and turned it into a RTS. They've already done some good experimentation with the series, like the Dirge of Cerberusand Crisis Core. The hero units in the RTS game if it were based on FFVII would be fantastic, Cloud, Sephiroth anyone? The graphics look amazing on this but of course every Square game does, I just hope there's at least some RPG element added to it and some cool abilities, like in World in Conflict or Company of Heroes. WW2 though? Come on Square, be more creative!
@Lordcrash
So basically you want another FF Tactics.
