Take-Two is Not Ready to Talk About GTA V

Like Really, Really, Really Not Ready

by Sean

Take-Two made a ton of money from Grand Theft Auto IV. When it was released, it broke sales records, and became one of the most profitable entertainment properties in history. So there's little question at this point that the world will be getting a sequel, more than likely called Grand Theft Auto V.  During a recent conference call discussing T2's third quarter financial results, a question was put to Strauss Zelnick, the publisher's chairman, about whether or not the company was ready to talk about GTA V. His response was, well, read for yourself:

“We’re not going to announce it. We’re not going to announce when we’re going to announce it. And we’re not going to announce the strategy about announcing it or about when we’re going to announce it either, or about the announcement strategy surrounding the announcement of the strategy. Any other questions?”

The only way that quote could have been any better would be if it had been followed up with a press release announcing that GTA V would be released in September 2010. Seriously though, I do like this kind of light-heartedness from an industry executive. it's a refreshing change from the corporate boilerplate speak we get from the Koticks, Moores, and Hirais of the world. Of course it's entirely possible that the next GTA game won't be called "GTA V", since both Vice City and San Andreas came between III and IV. But chances are, no matter what Zelnick says, there's going to be another one.

Good quote. Insert joke about GTA V here, I'm not feelin all too original.
