The Sims 3 Breaks EA Sales Records

Biggest PC Launch to Date for Mega-Developer

by Sean

This week the office has been filled with tales of rooting through garbage, napping in the middle of the afternoon, and child neglect. No, we're not getting ready to pitch VH1 a new reality show, we've all been infected with The Sims 3 fever. No less than half a dozen Gamervision staffers have installed the game and are currently living vicariously through their homemade people. Apparently the rest of the world is as infatuated with the game as we are, as Electronic Arts has announced that first week sales for The Sims 3 have broken all EA PC sales records.

Since its launch last week, the game has sold 1.4 million units on PC and Mac, making it EA's fastest selling PC launch. Further, the press release goes on to say that Sims 3 players downloaded over 7 million items of player created content, including Sims, houses, stories and more. Oh, and the iPhone version game also managed to debut in the number one spot on the iTunes App store, and has been there ever since.

Granted, Will Wright could probably release a roll of paper towels, name it "Sims Absorbency" and move 500,000 units. But still, it's nice to know that I helped contribute to a world's record. I feel like a developer at Codemasters!

I abandoned the Sims universe the very first time my very first sim bitched to me about dirty dishes on the floor. So it's safe to say I'm not really a fan. But I'll be damned if everyone else's Sim 3 exploits don't sound fun as hell to me.

Damned kids and their The Sims games! Why back in my day; we had to walk to our friends' houses and use our own action figures with their sisters' Barbie dolls to make Ken jealous. This also was good for making He-Man & Barbie babies look like the cast from Thundercats. "Thundercats! HOOOOOO!"
