Trailer - Paint by DS

One of the Stranger DS Titles I've Seen

by Sean

Since its launch, the Nintendo DS has gotten mixed support from developers for its novel touch screen control system. Certain games haven't really done much with it (Castlevania, MySims, and Dynasty Warriors all spring to mind...) Then there are the games that show that the stylus can be used to create a unique and amazing gaming experience (Phantom Hourglass, Starfox, and Puzzle Quest are the best of these.)

Then there is a third kind of title for the DS, one that is much harder to name. They aren't games, they aren't simulators, but they also couldn't really exist on any other platform. Titles like Jam Session, the Opera Web Browser, and the up-coming Paint by DS. As the video below shows, this isn't really a game in the sense of earn points, level, gain experience, solve puzzles. No, this appears to be more in line with Jam Sesssions.

The DS turns into a canvas, and you become a modern-day Van Gogh (if Van Gogh had been involved in paint-by-numbers). The most intriguing thing about the title is that there appear to be only two modes on it: Paint by DS and Paint Military Vehicles by DS.

I'm not exactly clear how they decided, with all of the beautiful artwork in the world, to only allow people to paint military vehicles, but that's what's up.

Anyway, the game launches in Europe and Australia in mid-December. Look for a US version in '08.

Would be cool if it were a bit more like Jam Sessions and let you free form it.
