Ubisoft Announces New Shaun White Snowboarding Game

Wii Exclusive to be Shown at E3 (surprise, surprise)

by Sean

To all you snowcats and snow... uh... guys, get ready for some shred-tastic news. Ubisoft has announced Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage, the first sequel to the critically-panned, but multi-million seller Shaun White Snowboarding. The new game, which will be Wii exclusive, features Mr. White and his cast of merry snowboarders competing in the world’s top competitions, from a half-pipe in the middle of New York’s Time Square to the most prestigious competitions of France, Canada and Japan.

Shaun White, taking some time off from being the second most overexposed athlete in the world (I'm looking at you, LeBron) had this to say of the sequel, "Ubisoft has been a great partner, and I'm excited for World Stage. It's cool to give people insight on what my life is like on the competition circuit."

Naturally, like every other news story this week, Ubisoft plans to show off World Stage during E3, particularly during their press conference on June 1st. Expect to see more Balance Board integration, as well as middle aged executives trying to look cool as they stand next to Shaun and bask in his radical glow.

There's no official date yet for the game, but Ubi has given the vague Holiday 2009 timeframe.

Here's a few more screenshots:

I heard Shawn White Wii was VERY good. Maybe they realized that the Wii is the way to go for this franchise?

The Wii version was by far the best. But being first place in a race full of lame, blind horses still means you're a lame, blind horse. About the only thing that worked well on the balance board was the turning because all you had to do was lean. The jumping was a bit counter intuitive. You had to push down with both feet rather than jump up a little. Granted, this is because you can't really jump on the board, but it still made things difficult. As did the fact that the board was not strapped to you. As a snowboarder, I found attempting to do anything but turn very awkward.

Whatever, Ubisoft. If this cash cow can finance Assassin's Creed 2 a little faster, then by all means, shovel it out.
