USPS Worker Admits to Stealing Thousands of GameFly Games
So That's Where That Copy of Katamari Forever Got To...
by Sean

A postal worker has confessed in federal court to stealing 2,200 video games that were addressed to Philadelphia-area GameFly customers. Reginald Johnson was captured in September of 2008 after a surveillance operation using test mailings led to the 34 year old processing clerk. The sting had been put into place after GameFly filed a formal complaint with the Postal Service regarding numerous complaints of missing games.
Apparently, in his duties as a processing clerk, Johnson was responsible for unloading tractor-trailers docked at Philadelphia’s processing and distribution center. Over the course of his scam, he stole a total of $86,000 worth of games, which he was trading in to GameStop for store credit. At the time of his arrest, Johnson’s SUV had five copies of Wii Sports, three Wii Fits, a PS3, controllers, and GameStop receipts. When authorities moved in to arrest him, Johnson sped off in the vehicle, eventually crashing and being apprehended. The Germantown resident faces 12 to 18 months, and will be sentenced on January 13th.
As a customer of GameFly who a) lives in the Philadelphia area and b)has known the sting of a game that supposedly shipped, but never arrived, I applaud the Philadelphia police and USPS for their efforts in apprehending Johnson. It takes some pretty big balls to think that no one would notice over 2,000 missing games, and some small brains to think that no one would ever find out who was responsible for it.

dude was trading the games in to gamestop?!? that seems... ridiculous. you'd be better off selling them on the street, seems like you'd stand to walk away with a LOT more cash.
Does not surprise me at all. As a former Philly GameStop employee, we used to get stolen shit traded in ALL the time--it's just a quick, easy way for thieves to unload their goods. Also, we had a rash of items stolen from shipments, at one point the shady UPS guys got so sloppy that boxes would arrive with the packing tape already torn open. They got busted eventually. It's really a shame that we have to worry about shipping stuff like that because a few postal workers are scumbags.
Guys... it was me.
Is that a photo of Byberry? If so: awesome!
No, no, TimO. Don't take the blame. It was me.
I would too if I could.
