Visceral Announces Dante's Inferno "Divine Edition"

PS3 Exclusive Package Underwhelms

by Sean

If you've been paying any attention around here, you know that there is a contingent of Gamervision employees that are big, big fans of games that ship with special editions. So there was a certain level of excitement when we got a press release from EA announcing that Dante's inferno will be getting a "Divine Edition". The enthusiasm waned a bit when we discovered that it would be PlayStation 3 exclusive, and all but disappeared when we learned the details of what it would include. Pre-orders are already getting an awesome NECA Dante figure, so we thought that for an edition to be "Divine" it would have had to ship with a replica scythe, a nice leather bound edition of the original poem, or a giant white cross. Instead, the Divine Edition will include the following:

  • Developer commentary
  • Digital art book featuring works by Wayne Barlowe
  • The game's soundtrack
  • Digital version of the Longfellow translation of Dante Alighieri's Inferno

That's it. Yeah. A bunch of on-disc content, that will only ship on the PS3 version, that in all honesty, if it wasn't billed as a special edition would most likely be ignored. The upside to the whole thing is that the Divine Edition will cost the same as the regular game ($59.99), but will only be available in limited quantites. Inferno won't be out until February 9th, but the demo for it comes to the PSN today, and Xbox Live on the 24th.
