We interrupt this steady stream of E3 news to bring you video game news of a slightly different ilk. Major Nelson has announced that yesterday that Guinness, the makers of beer and keepers of records, has awarded Xbox Live with its own Guinness World Record. Apparently, in the category of Online Console Gaming Service With The Most Users, Xbox Live reigns supreme. Now, a little bit of research revealed that, in fact, this is the first time Guinness has given out this lofty award, but I'm sure Microsoft won't let that spoil the news.

I'm reminded of last month's announcement that Codemasters' racer Fuel had won the record for largest console game ever, again, becoming the only game to ever earn that designation. Not that winning a Guinness World Record is the most prestigious award one can get, but it seems to cheapen the value of winning the award if it seems like a PR rep dreamed it up as a way to highlight the enormous number of Xbox Live users. I mean, hell, I could name myself the Guinness World Record collector of imaginary chipmunks. Hell, I've got more than I could ever show you, and if it's not enough, well, I'll just get more. But winning it wouldn't be quite the same as holding my breath for thirty minutes, or climbing Mt. Everest walking on my hands.
