Hollywood Writers Strike Good For Games

Some have wondered if the strike coudl be bad for games, I think it will be good.

So, recently all of the writers for TV and movie went on strike.  While a few game writers are members of the WGA, they are not striking.  So what does this mean for games?

Increased sales.  Think about it.  Why is it that I haven't beaten Ratchet and Clank Future yet?  Heroes, My Name Is Early, Scrubs, The Office, and the Daily Show.  If these shows cease to air I'll be playing more games than ever before.  This doesn't just go for me.

I was talking to my parents last night, proud Wii owners.  They had mentioned how their Wii playing had dropped off once the new shows came on.  If it goes over to all re-runs they will be playing a bunch more Wii.

So, that's good, we all get more game time.  It also means we finish our games faster, which means we will want more new ones.  If the lack of Daily Show this week means I beat Ratchet and Clank, then I am far more inclined to pick up Assassin's Creed on Tuesday.

Hollywood has already blamed Halo 3 for poor movie sales.  Well, if there isn't anything to compete, games may run away with people's money.  More people will get into systems like the Wii and all of a sudden TV isn't that big of a deal anymore.

Sure, I'm painting a doomsday scenario.  Honestly, whenever Heroes comes back on I'll watch it.  And the industry could resolve this quickly enough to not have a hiccup.  But, it could be really awesome for games.

interesting point, as usual of course :]

hopefully this will in turn, drive hollywood to treat their movie writers better, in hopes to beat out video games. and in turn hopefully that will drive video game makers to make games better. which will hopefully drive hollywood to stop making such shitty entertainment.

and so on and so on till everything is amazing.

or the world ends. either way...

Interesting perspective soulscreme... it should be interesting to see what happens to ratings as this strike plays out.

Doom movie was fun, as artistic as the game. Only problem I had was them getting rid of the hell aspect.

What about those of us who don't watch TV & barely watch movies as it is? This barely has an effect on me because I spend most of my time talking with my girlfriend, friends, family, gaming, reading & traveling. Hollywood is full of crap & this type of thing should've happened a long time ago when the writers realized that they were being pushed into the closet as an auxiliary machine. Where's the equality & justice when it takes those who are running around with wool over their eyes to see their true problems? I'll stick with gaming. :)

Roger Avary's Wolfenstein movie has been affected by this strike. I don't know if that a good thing or a bad thing.
