The Glory Days of Gaming
As a gamer, and a consumer, this is what we want from you.

There are a lot of good games out there today. No doubt, they all look great graphically, have wonder voice acting, and have some "unique" features to set it apart from other games. but, there was a time that I tend to call the "Glory days" of gameing. During this time, Games such as Syphon Filter, Metal Gear Solid, and Socom were coming out. This time period was full of games that may have not been ground breaking or totally original, but there was something about these games that made them funner then even most of the games that are out today.

these games were fun to play. Although a lot of games utilize a lot of new technology to make them look better, they often over look their very core game mechanics. Call of Duty 4 is unargueably one of the most played online games out there today. But when I play, the hit detection on it is just, horrible. I can't tell you how many times i've put the aimer square on a guy's chest and fired, only to have that guy turn and shoot me with a perfect shot to the head.I never had this problem when playing Socom II online. Yeah it didn't have customization or a great ranking system, but it was just fun and fair play... besides the glitchers (but they're in every game aren't they?).

As a gamer I really dont care about how great the game looks (although it's nice if it looks good), I don't care how great the voice acting is (although its great if its good), we just want simple, fun gameplay. Why do you think team fortress, or portal are so popular? becuase its simple, fun, balanced play. I remember the taser in Syphon filter, I remember being Specter in the middle of amazoniam rainforest. I remember when I fought the Hind-D helicopter on Shadow Mosses Island, as Solid Snake. These games had great and fun Gameplay. that's what we need game Developers. All the features, and graphics in the world won't make up for bad Gameplay. Developers, make games fun again, Not frustrating.

Sorry these were the two videos that should have showed up with the article.
syphon filter and socom are the glory days of gaming? what are you 15? oh. you are. nm!
My point is that the games that many of us grew up on just tended to be fun becuase devs. made games to be fun. What im trying to say is that games made years ago, regardless it be pong, socom, or whatever, they were good and it seems as though game developers (cough, EA) are just making games to sell.
I'm with you Suavy- next-gen graphics and the finest cell-shading known to man is all well and good, but if you're not having fun, what's the point?
