Star Wars Wampa Vs. Tauntaun Cake

Goriest 8th Birthday Cake Ever?

Kids are special little creatures. They're funny, they're short, they're pretty cute and sometimes they take after their parents in the best way. Take Jayne, the Barefoot Kitchen Witch, and her 8 year old son for example. For his second consecutive Star Wars themed party for his 8th birthday, this little boy wanted an Empire Strikes Back cake. Great choice of episode, little one. So, it's one thing that the chosen scene to be depicted for all his 2nd grade friends to eat would be when the Wampa kills Luke's Tauntaun. It's a whole other thing that mom took the initiative to top it all off with some strawberry flavored, bloody entrails. Did my heart just melt here on the cold planet of Hoth?

It did, it did. And while the finished product is beyond spectacular, the phases of transformation are rather entertaining too.

Here lies a purposely hollow Tauntaun, carefully crafted from fondant.

And a bowl of its innards: Cellophane noodles mixed with strawberry jam and red food dye.

Even Luke was hanging around.

If this isn't the greatest display of a mother and child connection, then I don't know what is. I only hope that one day, the poor person who's been picked to lead a life as my kid has some unique birthday cake requests that I can fulfill in the best of worst ways.

For more Wampa/Tauntaun cake details, pictures and its full story, head on over to the Barefoot Kitchen Witch and be entertained. And despite the gore, you'll probably be hungry too.
