Versions Of Super Mario Bros. I Wish I Could Play

Aw, They're Just Videos

You guys must think I'm the biggest Mario fangirl of all, but the truth is it's these kinds of stories that find me. And who are you to complain? You should be grateful for this stuff. Or in this case, vengeful and bitter that this is not the reality of the NES we dream of. Let's go ahead and sprinkle a little sugar on your sour and check out these clever videos of a Super Mario Bros. world we won't be finding on our retro game consoles.

Andreas Heikaus' vision takes up a little more space than your average living room. And while slowly following the curb isn't necessarily relaxing or safe (parked car accidents anyone?), you'll at least get some fresh air and a bit of mild exercise. Assuming you don't give up.

This video was part of my Bachelor thesis at the University of Applied science and art Hannover. The Super Mario Bros. game, released on the Nintendo Entertainment System, is not longer bound to the television size and get interactive with a new environment. The emphasis of my thesis is on the matchmoving work. It is the process of matching CG elements into live-action footage.

While I totally would love to play some Mario on the street, I may have to retract my first opinions about these leftover crossovers.

Inspired by Super Mario Bros. Crossover, where you can play the classic game as one of many other favorite 8-bit characters, here are some suspected leftovers whose bag of tricks just won't do the trick. I'll admit that I actually got kind of excited when I saw Pac Man, somehow forgetting that these rejects were let go for a reason. Man, I feel even more dumb than when I couldn't get Mega Man over that pipe. Oy vey.
