9.9.09 Dreamcast Birthday News
Hate it or love it, here's what happened today.
by TimO
So today is a day that I personally always notice. Not because of the numbers, but because of the Dreamcast. Every year, I can't help but feel nostalgic for that little white box of mine (or black if you've got the sports edition!). Well, today is it's ten year birthday and I feel an obligation to share what happened today, Dreamcast related.
Project Needlemouse:
Obviously the big news for today, but what about this one? The supposed first stage models of the game...

Rush Rush Rally Racing:
What an appropriate announcement for the tenth birthday of the little console that just-quite-couldn't-but-still-tries-like-hell. A new game! You can pre-order it here, or wait for it to be on amazon next month.
Believe it or not there have been 33 games released for the Dreamcast since 2004. Way after the discontinuance. Check out the full list and seriously consider buying some of them. Trust me on this one. But with only about 2-4 games coming out a year, many have taken it upon themselves in the homebrew community to keep it going. To get involved a great place to start would be over at dcemu. They've been around for almost as long as the Dreamcast itself, and since then they've gained sister sites dealing with pretty much every other console. But the very first one, was the Dreamcast.
Today, Massachusetts Governer Deval L. Patrick declared today to be Video Game Innovation Day! Because of the Dreamcast! What?... Oh... Because of The Beatles: Rock Band? Well that's crap. The DC's got way more innovation in it than Rock Band and the Beatles combined. Whatever, we can just pretend he means the Dreamcast and he's got a ten year lag time.
And finally, Peter Moore told his side of the story that lead to the Dreamcast's demise that fateful day on January 31st, 2001. But more importantly, how it wasn't his fault and to stop blaming him. Check out his blog to read it for yourself. But always remember that the Dreamcast didn't die. It just went to a better place. We're just waiting for a second coming. Dreamcast 2 anyone?
Feel free to leave you're fondest memories below. Here's to another ten years Dreamcast!
