How I got my job here at GV
Lots of pics.

I didn’t think anyone really remembered the box I sent here to Gamervision, but lo and behold, mikhailov did. And due to that, I’m writing up a post showing the making of it.
The conception of it started before I graduated at the end of March from the Art Institute in Graphic Design. I knew I wanted to pull something and it had to be big enough to get the attention of GV. I decided to go the route of a two part package. The first, not having any information about myself to keep them guessing. And the second, showing exactly who I am.
During the concept stage, I came up with the box design and putting the GB Camera inside with a message. That message, I decided to play off Gamervisions slogan, “How Gamers See The World”. That message was 10 slides long, each having one word each. “SEE THE WORLD THROUGH MY EYES IN A FEWb DAYSa”. Why the extra letters on the last two words? See if you can figure that out with the shots below.

With my silhouette in the background, I executed the Konami code visually. Hoping that would add more random confusion to the Mystery Box if they picked up on it, they did not.
The second package took me a while to conceptualize. I couldn’t figure out the right way to show my cover letter and resume in a unique way. Every idea that I had, immediately went to the trash can. That is until one night I went to Friendly’s with a few friends. That night I picked up decoder glasses for the kids menu for the simple fact of, why not? It was then that it all came together. I would take apart these glasses and fashion my own. On the glasses themselves I put the words “MY EYES” and a nondescript URL that lead right to my Cover letter and Resume. (tinyurl.com/pressstart)
A few days after Sean put the video up about the original package, I sent out phase two. Soon after got called in for an interview, and a month later was my first day.
During this entire thing, many people didn’t believe the packages would work. I simply shrugged them off and again, said why not. I had nothing to lose, I was fresh out of college, and hadn’t gone on a single interview. If it didn’t work, I’d simply put it in my portfolio and start applying to other places like crazy.
Thank god it worked though!

Congratulations. I wondered about the package as well at the time. This has got to be one of the best stories I've read in order to make an opportunity for yourself. My little sister just graduated from college and isn't having much luck at all.
That's extremely impressive, and puts everything in perspective (not a pun on the glasses). I actually checked Sean's post every once in awhile to see if anyone came forward. Thanks for your "making of" post. Just out of curiosity, who conducted your interview?
@Shagino: Trying to get a job right out of college is a nightmare. I had to substitute teach, work as a manager at Toys R Us, and work as a special ed teacher before I finally landed a job. My girlfriend is in a similar predicament now where she can't find a job. What do you do fresh out of college with little work experience? I hope your sister finds something.
my advice: stay in college forever. just keep changing majors, transfer, do whatever it takes.
The best advice for someone thats IN college is to do as many internships as possible. Internships are as good as work experience for entry level positions and show your direction in life. Infact your major sometimes doesn't hold a large amount of bearing if you have a focused internship track record.
