5th Cell Counting Down to Next Game Announcement
Super Scribblenauts Creators Heading to Xbox Live Arcade

(UPDATE) 5th Cell will also be revealing its new game on Spike TV next Thursday, October 28, at 10:00 PDT. Spike, home of such classy, erudite entertainment as 1000 Ways to Die, Half Pint Brawlers, and Manswers, seems like a strange place to unveil a game made by family-friendly 5th Cell, but...actually, I have no way to finish that sentence. Yeah, this is a bit weird.
If you buy into that whole “Metacritic” thing, then Super Scribblenauts is doing pretty well. It’s outperforming its predecessor, and people seem to agree that the addition of adjectives was just what the series needed. The game’s developer, 5th Cell, has been teasing an ambitious Xbox Live title for months now, but with all the excitement about Super Scribblenauts, some folks may have forgotten about the cryptic project. 5th Cell is making sure we remember by posting a countdown on their site.
With seven days left on the countdown, gamers are left with plenty of time to speculate on what, exactly, we’re counting down to. 5th Cell hasn’t given many hints; they’ve stated that it's an Xbox Live Arcade game that will be "pretty big," and that "It's going to be really cool," and "we're very excited about it,” but that’s about it. The countdown page, itself, offers little more info; it’s a countdown clock over an image of sand, possibly marked with footprints, with a faint overlay of a hexagonal grid.
Given the developers track record of quirky titles like the Scribblenauts series, Drawn to Life, D.N.A., and Lock’s Quest, I’m expecting a game that incorporates some sort of gimmick in a new and unique way (and I mean “gimmick” in the nicest way possible). I love 5th Cell’s attitude toward game design, and I’m eagerly awaiting the results of this countdown.
