"Epic Mickey" Concept Art Unearthed
Just What Is "Epic Mickey?"
I’m not sure how many of you remember Gamasutra’s report last year about Warren Spector working on a steampunk game for Disney, but I sure didn’t. It seems, however, that this previously back-burner news has moved up to the front as details begin to emerge about the game project known only as “Epic Mickey.”
Over on his website, concept artist Fred Gambino has posted images from an “interactive game” project he’s working on called Epic Mickey. The pics are right in line with the Gamasutra article, depicting steampunk versions of Disney characters and locations. Take a look.
They look great, but for now, we have no clue if they’re really attached to a game at all (though we believe they are). Somewhat more substantiated is this image from artist Gary Clover.

Unlike Gambino’s images, this one was very specifically detailed in the Gamasutra article;
“Another sketch included a surreal seashore invasion scene, in which machines wearing the faces of the Seven Dwarfs deposit old-fashioned renditions of Disney characters onto the beach with mechanical hands.”
As of now, we know very little about “Epic Mickey,” though I’d venture a guess that “Epic Mickey” won’t be the final title. We have no indication as to when it’s coming, to what platforms, or even what type of game it will be, but we're fascinated by the use of not only fictional Disney locales, but real-world ones like Epcot, as well as the "Kingdom Hearts-but-creepier" aesthetic. With artwork this good and a concept this cool, though, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the project for any and all updates.

looks cool... definitely curious where this is all going.
wow, that's pretty effing sweet
That Goofy is amazing. If the game does well, maybe Disney will add a steampunk world.
