Surprisingly, the console versions of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen aren’t half bad.  They’re visually impressive, the multiplayer modes are fun, and hey, there’s no Shia anywhere to be found.  My biggest complaint with the games is that there just aren’t enough playable characters.  An announcement this morning from Activision pretty much solves that issue, though; Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be getting a DLC pack this Summer.

The DLC will include three new multiplayer maps, a new “Expert” difficulty level, and, thankfully, ten new characters.  Here’s the list of the new Autobots and Decepticons.

*   Autobots:
          o Optimus Prime
          o Ironhide
          o Breakaway
          o Bumblebee
          o Ratchet
          o Aerialbot (Multiplayer-exclusive)
          o Protectobot (Multiplayer-exclusive)
    * Decepticons:
          o Starscream
          o Sideways
          o Grindor
          o Long Haul
          o Megatron
          o Seeker (Multiplayer-exclusive)

As you can see above, the Starscream listed there isn’t the weird looking, wide-bodied Starscream from the movie; it’s the original Starscream.  G1 Starscream.  THE REAL Starscream.  We don’t have any information on which of the other 10 characters will be based on their 1980s designs, but since Starscream is confirmed, I expect to see at least one of the Autobots to get the same treatment.  Perhaps Optimus Prime?

The opportunity to play as G1 characters is significantly more enticing than just playing the game out of the box, so I expect that this DLC pack will sell like Energon flavored hotcakes.  Which G1 designs do you want to play as?  I’m all about Grimlock, Shockwave and Jetfire.
