Activision Sues Double Fine for Some Nonsense
You Can't Have Your Cake and Eat it, Too

Yahoo is reporting that Activision has filed a lawsuit against Brütal Legend developer, Double Fine. With this lawsuit, Activision is attempting to “stop the release” of the Jack Black vehicle, claiming that it “still has a valid contract to release the game," and that Activision has invested approximately $15 million in the project. This comes months after Activision decided not to publish the game, which was to be produced by Sierra before they were absorbed into Activision, and allowed the property to be bought up by EA.
All of this sounds patently ridiculous. When exactly did Activision invest $15 million dollars in this game? Almost as soon as Sierra was brought into the Activision fold, Brütal Legend went on the chopping block, and “The Big A” never showed any desire to actually publish it. Now that they’re seeing the upside to the title, though, Activision is going all sour grapes on us, and basically pulling a “If I can’t have it, no one can!,” even though they essentially threw the property away. I’m not usually one to root for one side in corporate lawsuits, but this time, I’ll make an exception. I truly hope that the suit is thrown out of court as soon as possible for two reasons. One, what Activision is doing is just plain wrong, and two, I really want to play Brütal Legend.

At the end of the day the game industry is a business, even if business is fucking corny.
@dom: yeah but as a business you have to accept that when you let a property go to a competitor you lose the rights to it.
its like when a husband leaves his family, then sues his wife... wait a minute!
femjesse, you read it before. except last time, Double Fine was Warner Bros, Activision was Fox, and Brutal Legend was Watchmen.
Activision: Wait, people WANT Brütal Legend?! Well, we want it back then!
EA: Sorry, no givesies-backsies!
