Assassin's Creed Details, Bundle

PS3 Connectivity, Open-World Running

Along with the trailer that was released today, Ubisoft has also revealed some info about the PSP-only Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines and announced a snazzy new PSP bundle that includes the anticipated title.  From all indications, the handheld spin-off looks to be just as robust and fully-featured as its predecessor.

First off, there’s the bundle.  For $199, you can pick up a white PSP-3000, the game, a UMD movie (to be announced shortly), and a 2GB Memory Stick PRP Duo.  Not a bad deal, unless, of course, you’re holding out for the PSPgo.

As for the game itself, the PlayStation Blog interviewed Frederic Lefrancois, 3rd Party Producer on Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines, and asked him several pertinent questions about what kind of experience we can expect from Bloodlines.

You can expect to enjoy the core gameplay of the original Assassin’s Creed including the signature free-running and the intuitive combat system. Before killing his targets, Altair will get to complete a variety of missions, not always investigations. There are 8 new mission types and we wanted each mission to feel as fresh and exciting as the final Assassination moment… Once again, you can expect Altair to master his environment while performing all of his signature moves. In fact, Altair will free-run, sprint, fly between beams and climb everywhere to take advantage of its surroundings. This is a huge benchmark technology wise as this kind of freedom of movement has never been seen before on the PSP.”

So essentially, Bloodlines should be able to do everything the original game did, just on a smaller screen and while you’re riding the bus.  But what else will the game offer?  How about some sweet PS3 connectivity?

“As players unlock health and Hidden blade upgrades in Assassin’s Creed 2 PS3, the same upgrades will be unlocked in Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines (PSP). It also works the other way round: on the PS3 you will be able to access any Templar Coins and special weapons you’ve collected on the PSP.”

Quality handheld open world titles are hard to come by, so if AC:B can pull this off, it should offer an experience unlike anything else on the console.  Assassin’s Creed on the DS was even a decent game, so I have high hopes for the PSP offering.  I just hope that the “TBA” movie isn’t something awful, like Beverly Hills Chihuahua, or The Love Guru.
