Brett Ratner Focusing on Video Game Movies?
Uwe Boll Has Some Company
Last week, Variety.com conducted an interview with director/destroyer of the third X-Men movie, Brett Ratner. Most of the interview focuses on Ratner’s new marketing consultant firm and their insertion of Guitar Hero into American Idol and a Mariah Carey video. Tedious and uninteresting, I know. The very end of the interview, however, is far more interesting. When discussing Brett’s relationship with game companies, Bret stated “The games business is much more exciting than the movie business right now … I will be doing movies that come from videogames." He added that he'd now have "access to the Activision brain,” whatever that is.
So let’s see, what game franchises are ripe for butchering at the hands of a director like Mr. Ratner? Metroid? God of War? Bad Dudes? Whatever he gets his hands on, you can bet it’ll be short on story and characterization, and big on ‘splosions. Actually, for Metroid and Bad Dudes, that doesn’t sound too bad. As long as Chris Tucker is kept faaaaaaar away.
Bonus question! (worth 350 Gamervision bucks, redeemable at your local dark cave) What director do you WISH would make a video game movie, and what game would it be based on?
