Konami has announced release dates for their upcoming reboot of the Castlevania franchise, Castlevania: Lord of Shadows.  Gabriel Belmont’s adventure will start on October 5 in the US, October 7 in Europe, and October 8 in the UK.

Speaking with 1UP, producer David Cox also announced that two DLC packs are already planned for Lord of Shadows.  While he was less than forthcoming with details about them, he did confirm that they would feature new enemies and new areas in which to mercilessly whip said enemies.

To me, Castlevania has always been a 2D franchise.  For whatever reason, I wasn’t a fan of any of the 3D Castlevania games to come out for the PS2 or the N64, and I’m worried that this new iteration will feel too similar to Lament of Innocence, which felt like a bad Devil May Cry clone to me  It does have the benefit of Hideo Kojima helping the game’s development, though, so maybe this will be the game to finally bring Castlevania into the third dimension for me.
