If you’re anything like me (I know I am), you’ve spent the last few weeks tooling around virtual recreations of Gotham City and Metropolis, fighting the forces of evil and trying to impress Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.  The DC Universe Online Beta has been a lot of fun, and while the game has no shortage of bugs and glitches, I still plan on buying it on release day.  Sadly, I’ll have to wait until January 11 to get back into the greatest cities that never existed, because the Beta is coming to an end today.  At least they’re doing it in style.

The end of the Beta will culminate with the “Battle of the Legends” event, allowing players to join in an epic battle pitting Superman and Batman against Lex Luthor and The Joker.  Even cooler is the fact that Jim Lee will be taking part in the festivities, controlling futuristic versions of Batman and the Joker in the PC and PS3 versions, respectively, battling against writers from IGN. 

After the event, sadly, all characters will be wiped from existence, meaning players will have to start from scratch once the game arrives.  I’m okay with that; leveling up is less of a chore in DCUO than in many other MMOs, and creating new characters is always my favorite part of any superhero game.

Here’s the lowdown on the “Battle of the Legends.”  If anyone needs me, I’ll be on the PS3  Beta 1 server at 7, repeatedly getting one-hit-killed by Future Joker.
