We no longer need to call it “Trico.”  At the Sony press conference today, Team Ico’s third PlayStation exclusive game has a title; The Last Guardian.  It also has an extended trailer with actual game footage.  Check it out.

The game looks to incorporate some new stealth mechanics and physics-enabled combat, but the characters, animations, tone and style are unmistakably “Ico”.  It’s nice to finally see this series’ artistic style fully realized on a system powerful enough to do it justice.  The first two are beautiful, but you don’t want to play them on a big TV.

I love the Ico games, and this one looks like it won’t disappoint.  I only hope that the game's title doesn't signal the end of the series.  I can already tell I’m going to form a strong emotional bond with that fox-bird-luck dragon thing, which will make it all the more devastating when series creator Fumito Ueda kils him at the end of the game.
