E3 10: Killzone 3 Dated, Move Support Confirmed.

I Bet That Looked Cool in Person

Sony’s E3 press conference may be last, but by many reports, it’s certainly not going to be least.  To start off with, Sony showed off an early build of the next iteration of their most visually impressive series, Killzone 3.  In addition to some pre-alpha gameplay footage, we were informed of some details about the game, including a release month.

The footage was a pre-alpha build, and therefore a bit shaky.  Sadly, since I’m not at the event, and not wearing 3D glasses, so I couldn’t get the whole experience, but what we saw in 2D was still pretty impressive.  Standard shooting action was supplemented by jetpack flight, turret shooting, and an on-rails section, but the footage, as nice as it was, wasn’t the main event.  The big story was the fact that this fully 3D game will arrive in stores some time in February of next year, and that it will support the new Sony Move motion controller.

Killzone has become a marquee property for Sony, and should make a perfect test subject for using the Move system for ”core” games.  There’s a big difference between Move working for a ping pong tech demo and it being playable in a first person shooter.  Come February, we’ll have a much better idea how it fares.
