One of my favorite games of the year, Forza Motorsport 3, featured one of my favorite innovations of the year; the Storefront.  The idea of buying and selling user-created designs and logos with in-game currency is brilliant, and one that needs to be implemented in more games in the future.  With tens of thousands of designs, tuning setups, and logos already uploaded, a system like this is just too big for the developer to monitor.  The community of designers and tuners, therefore, must be counted on to police the content that is uploaded by reporting objectionable designs to the game’s developer, Turn 10.  Forza 3’s system for doing this is simple and effective, but any self-policing group is bound to have differences of opinion as to what is and isn’t inappropriate.  Apparently, one of my designs, seen above, falls on the wrong side of that debate.  I’m not sure why.

I made a destination sticker.  The kind that pretentious people put on their Range Rovers that tell others what resorts and tourist attractions they’ve visited.  The only difference; mine says “YMH-Your Mom’s House.”  Obviously, it’s a little racy in its implication that I’ve been to your mom’s house for, well, whatever, but without any curse words or mentions of anatomical parts, I can’t see why the sticker was reported.  Even worse, it was reported almost a week ago, and, as you can see below, it’s still being reviewed by the developer.

There’s nothing lewd about the sticker, nothing pornographic, and nothing that should be particularly offensive to any racial, ethnic, or cultural group.  Sure, people are bound to be a bit put-off by the sticker, an even report me.  It’s up to Turn 10, however, to keep the community as free as possible, and not censor material because it might offend the most thin-skinned of us.  In a design library that is dominated by nearly naked 11-year old anime girls, is a sticker with three letters really that offensive?

So what’s the deal, Turn 10?   You guys going to reinstate my logo?  I never said what happened at “your mom’s house.”  Maybe I went to your mom’s house for lunch.  Maybe I went for advice with my love life.  Maybe I just enjoy her company.
