This week, over 50 gaming media outlets got the chance to see Sony’s upcoming epic finale to the God of War series, God of War III, for the first time. Sitting down with the game’s director, Stig Asmussen, the journalists were shown 30 minutes of gameplay and given time for a Q&A.  Before all that, though, they were shown this three minute trailer.

The trailer is an extended version of the 45 second teaser we saw at the Spike TV VGA Awards; and what an extension it is!  Not only do we get to see the stab-happy Kratos dispatch with far more enemies this time, we also get a sense of the massive scale that God of War III is trying to convey in the form of the gargantuan Titan upon which the entire battle takes place.  Needless to say, it looks gorgeous, frenetic, and downright crazy-fun.  Here’s the topper; it’s all in-engine.

After seeing the video, the media reps were allowed to hit Asmussen with a plethora of questions about the game.  Among the info gleaned from this; the game will have no load times, much of the gameplay will take place on the backs of the Titans, and, despite their absence in the video, red orbs will be returning.  Asmussen also declined to confirm that this will be the final chapter in Kratos’ story, stating that “I don’t know about the future of God of War, I’m just focused on God of War III.”

In addition, Sony released a set of six images from the game, which can be viewed below.  So far, everything is shaping up for God of War III to be as epic and spectacular as we’d all hoped.  The big question now is when we’ll actually get to play it.  Sooner would be better.
