Incredible Hulk Details

Sega SMASH!

by Veggie Jackson

Reactions to the new Hulk movie trailer have been mixed to say the least.  Personally, I think the idea of two 10-foot monsters beating the hell out of each other in a crowded city is just peachy.  Some people (communists), though, seem to want a more mature, character driven story for the Hulk.  To those people, I say “HULK SMASH!” and quietly leave the room.  A subject of less debate is the quality of the last Hulk game, Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.  The free-roaming sandbox-style action title did a fantastic job of putting you in the shoes of the jade giant, allowing you the freedom to smash and destroy just about everything in site, and giving you plenty of interesting attack options to keep things interesting.  Yesterday saw the release of plenty of info on the next Hulk game, The Incredible Hulk, and it looks like developer Edge of Reality is looking to take what worked from the last offering, expose it to large doses of gamma radiation, and set it loose on our consoles.  The press release seems to indicate that all buildings in the game will now be destructible, and that is a very good thing.  The rest of the press release sounds like more of the same, but the screens shots show that the game should certainly look better.  As a massive comic nerd, I’ll be sure to keep you updated on new developments on this one.

Here’s some images and the full press release.  Click the pics to “Hulk them out”….or just make them bigger.

Overview
One of Marvel®’s most powerful Super Heroes® unleashes epic destruction this June in Marvel Studios’ blockbuster movie, The Incredible Hulk. Along with the film, SEGA® releases an intensely realistic third-person action video game available on all major video-game platforms.

Fuelled with fury, SEGA’s The Incredible Hulk features key moments from the film, as well as additional plotlines and characters from the character’s rich comic-book universe. Players smash through New York City, battling gigantic enemies amidst soaring skyscrapers in a massive open world.

As one of the most anticipated entertainment events of 2008, The Incredible Hulk will have fans lining up this summer on both the big and small screens.

Key Features:
• Unlimited Destruction: Become the Incredible Hulk and experience unlimited destruction. Players can demolish anything in their path and also use it as a weapon – pieces of a crumbling building…a passing car…a street lamp. Players can even demolish buildings with their bare hands. Damage is persistent, and gamers can use it to gain access to previously unreachable areas.
• Powerful Rage: Rage is power. Build the Hulk’s rage to learn powerful moves. Cause unheard-of damage to gain and upgrade his abilities.
• Incredible Scale: New York City’s towering skyscrapers allow for exciting vertically based gameplay, while powerful, massive enemies such as Bi-Beast and the Abomination challenge the Hulk’s might.
• Dynamic Open World: A realistic next-gen, open-world representation of Manhattan provides gamers with an immense playground of destruction that also contains sub-quests, minigames, and a story that reaches beyond the film to include elements from classic Marvel comics.

Wait wait.... since when do mature and character driven stories belong in the same sentence as The Hulk? Yeah, we have the whole "Tortured Bruce Banner" bit, but if I recall, that almost always plays second fiddle to SMASH.

How can you be bored with comic book movie/games when 96% of them have been done poorly, and we just now have the tech to do them well?
