Kinect Only Supports Two Players at Once

Family Gaming, as Long as You Have a Very Small Family

by Veggie Jackson

The Kinect is supposed to be all about family gaming, right? It’s supposed to compete with the Wii and the Sony Move in terms of grabbing new, non-traditional gamers, right?  It’s supposed to entertain kids, parents, grandparents, and any drifters or vagrants that might be hanging around, right?  RIGHT?  So why does it only support two players at once?

Online retailer Play.com has the Microsoft wonder-camera available for pre-order, and in their description, they explain that the Kinect has the ability to track “up to 6 people, including 2 active players.”  This doesn’t exactly scream “family gaming,” and seems pretty week when compared to  the Wii’s four-player abilities.

It seems like every new piece of info we get regarding the Kinect involves some sort of new limitation to its functionality, making it less and less inviting to gamers.  Perhaps Microsoft should put a moratorium on Kinect news stories until the thing comes out.  That way, they can at least sell a few hundred thousand units before word of mouth gets too bad.

Does anyone seriously expect this thing to perform well? There's just no way it's going to be even half as cool as most expect it will be.

The kinect is going to be terrible.

Can't you buy a Wii for the price of this thing and a game?
