Konami bringing X-Men Beat em' Up to XBLA, PSN

Welcome TO DIE!

by Veggie Jackson

It’s no surprise that the majority of the gaming news coming out of this weekend’s New York Comic Con was superhero-heavy.  New character reveals for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, footage of Batman: Arkham City, and previews of Captain America: Super Soldier weren’t exactly shocking, but one piece of Marvel-related news surprised and delighted fans who remember lining up stacks of quarters with their friends at the arcade; Konami will be bringing its classic arcade game, X-Men, to Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network.

Considered one of the best arcade beat-em-ups of the era when arcades mattered, X-Men allowed up to six players to team up as members of Marvel’s famous mutant team to defeat the evil forces of Magneto and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.  The downloadable release will emulate the awesomeness of the six-player arcade cabinet by allowing six-player online drop-in/drop-out gameplay, and will include all six original characters; Wolverine, Cyclops, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm, and Dazzler.

With six-player online co-op play, this should be the best version of one of the most memorable arcade experiences of my childhood.  No date or price has been announced, but as long as the game comes in at less than $20, I’ll be grabbing this one on day one.  If nothing else, it’s the only way gamers can take control of the greatest X-Man of them all; Dazzler.
