LBP Getting Image Import Tool
Or It Isn't. Or Something. I Don't Even Know Any More.
You tell me if you can figure out what the hell’s going on here. Two days ago, at a Game City event in England, Media Molecule co-founder, Alex Evans, confirmed that true image importing (importing .jpeg files directly into the game as stickers or textures without using the PlayStation Eye) would be coming to LittleBigPlanet by Christmas this year. Then, yesterday, posting on the PlayStation forums, LBP community manager Sam_Protagonist made the following statement: “[Image] importing is very much technically viable ... however there are currently no plans to introduce it for a variety of reasons," adding, "we'll update if that changes.”
So, no importing. Got it. Understood. That just leaves one small question…
What the hell is this?!?!?

It sure looks like a screenshot of the new importing tool for LBP, doesn’t it? Besides that, we have it on pretty good authority that that is exactly what it is. “Whose authority?” you may ask. Well, how about Media Molecule, who released the image and essentially re-announced that the tool will be coming to the game. There’s no date confirmed as of yet, but Alex Evans made this statement regarding its progress: “"The work is done on the tool, and it just needs to go through QA and then certification."
So apparently, we now WILL have access to the import tool, allowing gamers everywhere to render their custom levels unplayable by children and sensitive adults. There seems to be a serious communication problem over at Media Molecule, as no one seems to have compared notes on upcoming features. Hopefully, this is the last we’ll hear about this particular feature until it’s released, but with three alternating stories in three days, we may end up seeing the feature cancelled and un-cancelled a few more times before it drops. Or doesn’t drop. Whichever one actually happens. Who the hell knows.
