Mario Blocks Pop Up in Pittsburgh

I know Pennsylvania is mushroom country, but come on…

by Veggie Jackson

This story is a bit old (it’s from January), but it’s so rare that an act of guerrilla art elicits anything from me but an exasperated sigh that I had to share this one with you guys.

“Installation artist” Kotakuite Scott began hanging up cardboard boxes painted as Super Mario Bros.’ famous ? blocks earlier this year. The project is an attempt to outdo another local artist who decorated the city with of graffiti Yoshi eggs last year, and if you ask me, this is much cooler. The blocks are made from standard USPS shipping boxes, stencils and spray paint and have been hung in auspicious places all around the steel city, including the entrance to a post office. Of course, it’s only a matter of time before this turns into an Aqua Teen-like situation and bomb squads are called in to deal with the imminent threat posed by empty cardboard boxes.

This is whimsy at it's best. Hooray!
I was planning to put up 100 of these in Altoona, but now I may rethink it.

If they did this in Boston the police would blow them up only to find that they were filled with mushrooms and money.
