First revealed as a registered trademark of Capcom, the mysterious project known as "Mega Man Universe" is one of the more enigmatic games currently in development.  Capcom has been holding their cards close to the vest, revealing nothing about the planned title, and fans of the Blue Bomber have speculated about every conceivable possibility for the game.  Today, Capcom has announced that Mega Man Universe will be a downloadable title on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, and even released a trailer for the game.  Believe it or not, after watching the video, I'm waaaaay more confused.

The trailer, which features stop-motion animation versions of Megaman, Ryu, and Arthur from Ghosts N' Goblins, couldn't possibly be less vague.  There's some limb-swapping, which could be a clue to...something, and even a brief appearance of a Ryu/Megaman/Arthur gestalt, but no actual gameplay, and no real hint as to what the game will entail.  At least the animation is of high-quality; a bit cleaner and more polished than what's found on Robot Chicken, or the Robot Chicken-inspired stop-motion ad for Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom.

The announcement comes by way of the Capcom Unity website, which does include a statement by Keiji Inafune, the creator of Mega Man.  Inafune promises that "This game will break the mold and challenge the conventional wisdom of what a Mega Man game can be," and that "when fans finally get to see it, I believe they'll envision their most far-out Mega Man dreams coming true."  Of course, tis doesn't tell us a damn thing about the game, either, so we, as gamers, have a responsibility to continue our wild, baseless speculation until we get some answers.  Me; I'm going with an RTS/card collecting/fishing hybrid featuring the three Capcom stars we've seen, battling alongside your favorite members of Menudo.  Also, "Zombie Mode."
