Microsoft Planning In-Game Walkthroughs
Isn't That What the Internet's For?

Bradygames is gonna be piiiiiiissed…
Nintendo has already unveiled their gameplay assisting “Super Guide,” potentially hurting sales of Bradygames’ strategy guides, and now Microsoft is considering their own version. Andre Vrignaud, Microsoft’s Director of Games Platform Strategy, has filed a patent for technology that would allow gamers to submit tips, guides, and walkthroughs for Xbox 360 games, which would then be viewable by players struggling with a certain section of the game.
The patent also mentions functionality for adding screenshots and videos, and the ability to annote them with a digital pencil. Theoretically, developers would also be able to add their own notes, which would be marked differently than player notes.
The idea is a cool one, no doubt, but it also brings up some potential issues; not the least of which is that trusting the larger Xbox Live community to help their fellow players is pure insanity. This is a group of people for whom bombarding opponents with racial and homophobic slurs, regardless of their ethnicity or sexual orientation, is the only reason to be online, so they might not be the best group to turn to for sage advice.
