Capcom still hasn’t given us a definitive answer on just how many playable characters will appear in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, so we’re not sure if these are the last two fighters to be announced, but Mike Haggar and Phoenix will appear in this year’s most eagerly anticipated fighter.

The persistent rumors about the inclusion of Mike Haggar, the pro wrestler/mayor of Metro City, have turned out to be true.  Phoenix, on the other hand, comes as something of a surprise, especially considering the fact that, in Marvel comics, she’s been dead since 2005. 

The two gameplay videos show off, well, gameplay, of the fighters in action, with Haggar doing an impressive Zangief impression, and Phoenix displaying some of the same techniques she used in the little-known, little-loved PS2 fighter, X-Men: Next Dimension.

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is expected to have around 40 playable characters at launch.  Phoenix and Haggar mark the 31^st and 32^nd entry, with Shuma Gorath (I still don’t get that one) and Jill Valentine scheduled as DLC characters.  With the game releasing in just over a month, Capcom will have to reveal two new characters a week to meet that mark.  I’m fully expecting the announcement of Mega Man, Cyclops, and Taskmaster soon, but that still leaves plenty of room for other picks.  Any guesses?
