Netflix Eyeing Deal With Microsoft?

To Deliver HD Movies Through Xbox 360

by Veggie Jackson

Netflix has made a name for itself as major competitor to Blockbuster by offering online movie rentals at decent prices.  According to Yahoo! News, they may soon be branching out into other delivery methods to reach as many customers as possible.  Apparently, Netflix has surveyed its members in regards to the possibility of streaming high definition movies to the Xbox 360.

According to Netflix spokesman Steve Swasey, Netflix is interested in getting movies out to customers "in as many ways as possible".  He declined to comment on whether this indicated a looming partnership between the movie service and Microsoft.  Netflix recently signed a deal with LG Electronics to produce a Tivo-like box that would allow downloads of HD movies directly, and one would think that a possible Xbox deal would work similarly.  Microsoft's lack of Blu-Ray support, along with their commitment to digital media distribution, seems to support the validity of this possible bombshell, so we’ll keep you updated if there’s anything with which to update.

Meh... Comcast HD on demand works just fine.

Comcast service SUCKS compared to Microsoft HD movie rentals. Ever try to pause, ff, or rewind with Comcast? TERRIBLE!!!! I think if you give it a try, you will see that it is a better service. It still feels weird watching an "on-demand" movie through a 360 though.

No Mike, your absolutely right. It is far easier to get the controller, make sure it is switched on, switch it on if it has timed out, hit the button to bring up the control menu, find and then scroll over to "pause, ff, or rewind" than to hit the dedicated buttons on my Comcast remote that are labeled with those presets. Oh wait, no, it isn't.

Yeah, its pretty tough to push left, down, or right on the 360 controller. And my entire point was that the lag/delay on Comcast's On Demand movies is unbearable and there is no lag/delay on XBOX's service. Also, XBOX Live has a BUNCH of programs that Comcast on-demand doesn't offer. But, if you like being a negative Nancy, by all means....
