New Guilty Gear Coming to Current-Gen Consoles

Weirdness Awaits

by Veggie Jackson

Earlier in the year, there were rumors that the rights to Guilty Gear, the hectic 2D fighting series, had transferred from developer Arc System Works to Sega Sammy Holdings.  While we never really got a clarification from either party, it looks like the two companies have figured out a compromise, as series creator Daisuke Ishiwatari has announced that a new Guilty Gear will be coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3.

The news comes somewhat second-hand, as Tomo Ohno of Arc Systems told NowGamer, "What we can say about Guilty Gear is that it is not dead yet… It has not ended. The producer/creator of Guilty Gear, Daisuke Ishiwatari, his comment for this meeting [was] ‘I have the full intention to create Guilty Gear for PS3 and 360."

I’m not all that familiar with the Guilty Gear series, other than the fact that Bridget is actually a guy, but if my time with Blazblue is any indication, Arc System Works knows its way around a 2D fighter.  It’ll be interesting to see what the publishing arrangement between Arc and Sega will be, and whether or not the 2D fighting world has room for two Arc games with similar artisitic and gamepay styles.
