New Halo Script Is A Prequel To The First Game

Written By Gears Movie Writer

Rumors of a new Halo movie script being written have been floating around Hollywood ever since the original Halo movie was scrapped back in April.  Story was that Stuart Beattie, writer of Pirates of the Caribbean and the upcoming Gears of War film script for New Line, was working on a script based on the most popular of the Halo books, The Fall of the Reach, which is a direct prequel to the first game.  Turns out the story was true, as Beattie has finished the script.  According to Gamedaily, who interviewed Beattie, the script has been sent to Bungie, who liked it, and Beattie is currently pitching the story to Microsoft.

Beattie gives a brief, but revealing description of the story.

“The character doesn't start off as Master Chief. He starts off as John, who's the kid that's kidnapped and told he's going to be a soldier. Anyone can connect with a kid kidnapped from his own home. You're along for that journey. The Covenant comes along halfway through that movie. That gives you half the movie to really get to know everyone and care about everyone. And then when the Covenant come along, it's the first time John sees a grunt or a jackal or an elite. The audience is trying to figure out everything at the same time as the characters are. What are these aliens? Why are they killing us? What did we do? And realizing it's all about this Halo ring. And then ending the movie where the first game begins.”

So will this movie actually get made?  Hard to tell, but if a project with Peter Jackson attached can’t get greenlit, it’s tough to believe that the same project will get the go-ahead without him.  The concept sounds good, and I know the books were generally well-received, but I haven’t read a word of any of them, so you Halo fanatics probably know better than I.  What are the chances of this actually happening?

profitable videogame franchise = profitable movie franchise

I wish someone would stop for a second and realize that just because a lot of people enjoy playing a certain game, it doesn't mean that just as many people would sit in a theater for two hours NOT playing that game. This, in addition to 90% of videogame/film adaptations, are just unnecessary.

But whatever, I can't stop this money train. But I can jump off and watch it roll on without me.

I love that script idea. Too bad it will never see the light of day.

We know the gist of the story. Guy goes into UNSC and joins an elite troupe of enhanced soldiers, is one of many by the way, and becomes the last one standing as the war with the Covenant continues. What else is there to know, Cortana's story?

We all know the story of Iron Man, too, but it made one hell of a movie.
