Marvel Ultimate Alliance had a lot going for it: 4-player co-op, online capabilities, a massive game world modeled after some of Marvel’s greatest locations, tons of unlockable content and a surprisingly awesome soundtrack.  For comic fans, though, its best feature was the ability to command obscure heroes that had never been seen in video games before.  Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, Deadpool, Spider Woman and Luke Cage aren’t exactly on the same level as Spider-Man and Wolverine when it comes to mainstream recognition, but to Marvel die-hards, their inclusion went a long way toward immersing them in a fleshed-out Marvel Universe.

For the sequel, Marvel Alliance 2: Fusion, Activision hasn’t forgotten this, and has proven it with their most recent character announcement.  Former supervillain and longtime Thunderbolts member Songbird will be a playable character in the game, marking the first member of the T-Bolts to make the jump to the screen in any capacity.  Activision has supplied some images  as well, which are below

For those who don’t know Songbird (which I assume would be about 96% of you), her name is Melissa Gold, she used to go by the supervillain name Screaming Mimi, and she has the ability to form projectiles and solid objects out of pure sonic energy.  As a devoted Thunderbolts reader and a fan of the character, this 14th character announcement comes as a welcome surprise.  The rest of the announced characters have all been relatively high-profile heroes, so it’s good to see some of the lesser known characters get their day in the sun.  There are still 10 slots listed as “Confidential” on the official MUA2 site, so my dreams of a Squirrel Girl/D-Man/Captain Ultra/NFL Superpro team are still technically alive.  Technically….
