New Skate 3 Trailer Showcases Teamwork
There's No "I" in Skate 3
Skate 3 is all about teamwork. Offline, the game will focus on building your team of AI skaters and taking on rival teams of AI skaters for credit and respect. Online, it’s pretty much the same, except with real, live people instead of lines of code. The newest trailer video showcases this aspect, along with showing us a good amount of the new city, Port Carverton, and plenty of badass skating action.
While there’s some awesome skating action to be found here, I feel like the video is missing voice-over or at least text-over to explain who these skaters are, what events are taking place, or why there are teams called “Hesh” and ”Fresh.” There are also no shots of anyone doing the new trick types, darkslides and underflips, or of the improved skate park creation tools. At least there’s a guy in some seriously tight nut-huggers at 1:54.
Even if Skate 3 offered exactly the same gameplay as the second game, but set in a different city, it would be a day-one purchase for me. The addition of skate teams only sweetens the deal. It's also going to make me become a lobbyist for the game to all my friends in the hopes that they'll actually buy it this time, and join me in my online skate posse. Skate 3 is set for a May 2010 release.
