Okamiden Screens Surface

Hand-Held Watercolor Wolves Are Awesome

by Veggie Jackson

Scanned images from the newest issue of Japanese gaming mag Famitsu have revealed the highly-anticipated sequel to Okami, Okamiden.  Despite the original game’s heavy reliance on highly stylized visuals, Okamiden will be released on the DS.

The images show that Capcom has stuck with the watercolor look from the first game, albeit in a more blocky form, and the DS should serve as the perfect platform for the game’s paintbrush mechanics.  Even on the blurry pics from the underpowered DS, the still images show great detail, art direction and use of color.

With Clover Studios, the original game’s developer, now defunct, it’s unknown who will be developing Okamiden.  The former members of Clover ended up creating Platinum Games, but with their close relationship with Sega, it’s doubtful that they’ll be working on it.  We’ll keep you abreast of any updates to the game.
