Perfect Dark XBLA Looks Like Perfect Dark

Details on New Version of the Classic Shooter

by Veggie Jackson

Along with a few images, the Xbox website has revealed a few details about the upcoming Xbox Live Arcade port of Perfect Dark.  Take a look at the pics, then we’ll talk about the details.

As you can see, the game hasn’t received a massive graphical overhaul.  In fact, it looks pretty much like it did back in the N464 era.  If it did receive a new coat of current-gen paint, it wasn’t a very thick one.  Apparently, the game will be presented in 1080p, though, and Microsoft promises the whole thing will run at 60 fps.

Aside from the visuals, we also got a few details about the game’s modes.  In addition to head-to-head 4-player matches on a single console, there will also be 4-player online multiplayer, allowing players to fight it out over Xbox Live.  2-player co-op will also be available, meaning that pretty much every feature from the original has been retained.

While I enjoy a good retro game as much as the next 33-year-old-who’s-trying-desperateley-to-recapture-his-youth, for some reason, I don’t enjoy outdated FPSs.  This port of Perfect Dark, an unquestionably excellent and advanced title for its time, needed a little something extra to pique my interest enough for me to spend money on it, and I’m not sure that online play is enough.  Regardless, I know a lot of people are extremely excited about the return of one of the most beloved shooters ever, and online play will just be icing on the cake they were going to buy anyway.

I'm going to say it now but I wonder if I'll stick to it: I won't be getting this. Perfect Dark and Goldeneye do not hold up for me, but then again I did buy Doom and will be getting Wolfenstein.

But now, at least, all the people bitching for a Goldeneye port should shut up for a minute.

I have to agree with you, dated FPS's don't hold up for me either. I can play old platformers and have a blast. Even playing old sports games holds a certain charm. I played Goldeneye recently and turned it off after five minutes. Go figure.
