Power Customization Coming to City of Heroes

At Last, the Legend of the Perriwinkle Flame Begins!

by Veggie Jackson

From the “Better Late Than Never” files comes a story about City of Heroes, the superhero MMO that’s been keeping gamers fighting crime for the last five years.  A forum post by community liaison, Positron, revealed a feature that’s coming with the game’s 16th update.  Commenting on rampant rumors on the forum, Positron stated,

“So there has been some speculation on the boards about the content of Issue 16, and its relationship to the Going Rogue expansion. Due to some poor link naming in the initial Going Rogue email, many of you are under the mistaken impression that Issue 16 will be Going Rogue.

I am here to set the record straight. Issue 16 is NOT Going Rogue.

But I can give you guys a hint at what Issue 16 WILL be all about:”

After that, he posted the following two pics, labeled "purple_fire_control.jpg" and “blue_fire_dominator.jpg.”  Take a look.

For those who don’t play the game, it may not be clear what this means, but for Paragon’s finest, it’s very clear; power customization is coming to City of Heroes.  The ability to change the color and look of characters’ various energy and elemental attacks is something that players have been clamoring for since the game’s launch a half-decade ago.

With both Champions Online and DC Universe Online creeping up on City of Heroes, it seems that the developers are doing everything they can to rekindle players’ interest in the game.  Along with the recently released Architect update and the upcoming Going Rogue expansion, this new addition should bring some old players back into the city, even if it's just to create new characters who shoot green flames and orange ice.  Mmmmmm, orange ice.
