REAL Mortal Kombat Teaser Emerges
For a Game This Time
Three days in a row with Mortal Kombat news? What is this, 1993? Seriously, the last time the franchise got this kind of attention since thosetwo teenagers accidentally killed their neighbor when imitating MK moves. Luckily, this week’s MK-related news is of a far more positive nature. First, on Tuesday, we saw that awesomely nasty MK movie trailer concept. The next day, star Jeri Ryan explained (to our disappointment) what it was, and today, Warner Bros. has released a real trailer for a new game in the series, simply titled Mortal Kombat.
Based on what we see in this trailer, this new Mortal Kombat title is heavily influenced by Mortal Kombat 3, with several characters that were introduced in that game appearing in their MK3 costumes. In addition, it seems like every environment in the trailer is taken from MK3 as well, including the acid pool and Shao Khan’s arena. Gameplay-wise, this looks like the Mortal Kombat fighting experience we’ve all come to expect (and some of us have come to love); 2D fighting with a focus on quick attacks, teleports, and extreme violence. And the Fatalities…oh the Fatalities.
For fans of old-school Mortal Kombat like me, this video is a lovely little piece of blood-soaked happiness. For gamers looking for a new take on the franchise, this probably isn’t going to be too satisfying. If Warner Bros. wants to draw in a whole new crowd to the franchise, they should be going more in the direction that the “movie” trailer did instead of emulating the past. That doesn’t make me any less excited about it, though, and I’m hopeful that we’ll get more details at E3.

Is there even a Mortal Kombat fan base anymore? Seems they put out some MK related game every year, and i always ask myself who's this for? That being said, cant wait to cut some one in half with my hat.
@Sansbeard - it's for me. Even if I'm the only fan left, I'm a rabid fan.
@Sean...I'm a fan of rabies too...
