Rock Band Tapping its Way to the iPhone

Yet Another Way to Play Rock Band

by Veggie Jackson

So you love Rock Band, but the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP, and DS just don’t offer enough ways to play.  Fear not, rhythm gamers; Rock Band is coming to the iPhone, and “very soon.”

The portable rhythm game, brought to you by Harmonix, will support 4-player co-op, allowing players to tap screens in rhythm as a team, as well as World Tour and Solo Tour campaign modes.  20 songs will fill the soundtrack at the beginning, but DLC tracks are planned.  Here’s the starting track list;

  • "Attack" - 30 Seconds To Mars
  • "Girls Not Grey" - AFI
  • "Move Along" - All American Rejects
  • "Sabotage" - Beastie Boys
  • "All The Small Things" - Blink-182
  • "Hanging on the Telephone" - Blondie
  • "Learn To Fly" - Foo Fighters
  • "Everlong" - Foo Fighters
  • "Bad to The Bone" - George Thorogood & the Destroyers
  • "Hymn 43" - Jethro Tull
  • "Bad Reputation" - Joan Jett
  • "Simple Man" - Lynard Skynard
  • "Ace of Spades '08" - Motorhead
  • "Debaser" - Pixies
  • "Ladybug" - Presidents of The United States of America
  • "Give It All" - Rise Against
  • "Lazy Eye" - Silversun Pick Ups
  • "Cherub Rock" - Smashing Pumpkins
  • "Take The Money and Run" - Steve Miller Band
  • "We Got The Beat" - The Go Go's

According to Pocketgamer, the game will support local multiplayer over Bluetooth and will use Facebook to support its online co-op modes.

iPhone users all around the office are saying essentially the same thing; “I’m buying it.”  While the iPhone’s touch screen may seem like the ideal interface for a Rock Band title, I’m not so sure this game won’t turn out to be extremely boring.  Then again, with Tap Tap Revenge topping the charts, I suppose anything is possible. We’ll find out when the game releases “very soon.”

I don't have an iPhone, so I don't have to make the choice. I'd like to say that this doesn't interest me at all, but I was surprised by how much fun Rock Band Unplugged for the PSP is, so... let me know how it is, iPhone users. I'll continue to play NO games on my cheap-ass phone.

Tap Tap Revenge is free. I wonder what the price point for this is. $10 + $2 a song isn't going to cut it. Not for me at least.
