Rumor: Dual Touch-Screen DS Coming Next Year

Stop Me If You've Heard This One...

by Veggie Jackson

Kotaku is claiming that “several industry sources outside of Nintendo” have confirmed that a new DS will be announced by Nintendo.  According to the story, the new model will include two touch-sensitive screens, and each will be slightly bigger than the current model’s screens.  If the story is true, we can expect an official announcement some time next year.

As intriguing as this rumor is, no one should get too excited about it.  Nintendo has refused to comment on the story, dismissing it as “rumor and speculation."  Still, rumors of a new DS have been circulating for some time, and a recent downturn in DS sales make them seem more feasible.  Don’t get me wrong, the DS is still selling like hotcakes, just not like hotcakes stuffed with gold-plated diamonds anymore.  Besides, the idea of Nintendo denying something mere weeks before announcing it isn’t all that crazy.  We’ll keep you updated with any new info as it becomes available.

As long as it's backward compatible with normal DS games, and have more resistant screen, I don't care so much.

    DONKEY KONG RULES!!!!!

Oh, that's right, this article is about another incarnation of Gameboy coming out "soon". I personally feel that if you add a second touch screen to the mix you can probably break the hand-held due to over-use or something along those lines. I just really think it'll make it brittle to certain things and doesn't need to be done.

I'd like to see one that removes the GBA functionality and gives it some storage space. I know Nintendo fears piracy, and look at the PSP for their reasoning, but I bet they could do some encryption that would work.

There is no encryption that will ever stop piracy. None.
