Rumor: Sony To Announce Video Service Launch At E3?

LA Times Reports

by Veggie Jackson

In 2007, Sony was forced to sell Movielink, their first attempt at a digital video distribution service, to Blockbuster.  Earlier this year, they had to shut down their second attempt, a service called Sony Connect that no one ever heard of and even less people used.  Despite the setbacks, it looks like Sony is hoping that the third time’s a charm.  According to Gamepro, the LA Times is reporting that the electronics giant will announce and unveil their new, PS3-based download service at July’s E3 convention.

It’s no secret that Sony has coveted Microsoft’s digital distribution model for some time now, so the rumor doesn’t seem at all far-fetched.  The fact that it jibes with Peter Dille’s blog, which stated that “it's already been confirmed that we'll be offering a video service for PS3 in a way that separates the service from others you've seen or used," makes it all the more believable.

We’ll be live from E3 in July, so as soon as this announcement is made, you’ll be the first to know.  Well, we’ll be first, then you second.  Still, second is pretty good.
